Many radiation hazards are considered safe only due to the stability of the area, perhaps because earthquakes are not likely in the area. During massive earthquakes, or due to failure to monitor or maintain a site such as a nuclear power plant, such supposedly safe radiation sources may become unsafe. US Radiation Sites of nuclear power plants worldwide and the health effects should radiation poisoning occur should be considered, and ultimately the treatment of radioactive waste may need to be considered.
